Dear Me!

I have been born and raised in a society full of challenges, and I learn over time to love these challenges and to cope with them in a very healthy productive way.

I was born and raised in a desert country filled with many wonders. Trees grow out of rocks. Frogs come out of the sands in a cloudburst. I always think that there’s a reason why the old prophets went to the desert and not the jungle. There is no static in the scenery so, the eyes can rest and therefore, the heart. These wonders brought out the best in me and taught me so many lessons, taught me to take control of what I have power over instead of craving control over what I don’t, to be brave enough to create my own way of life and turn a deaf ear to a very judgmental society.

In this International Women’s Day, I’m thankful to be a woman,  and to have the love and support from my family  who taught me that women are not less significant than men when it comes to future.

I have been guided with one of the most profound sayings that I have ever come across that I made it a personal motto.  Clare Boothe Luce, the renowned US play wright, journalist and later a congresswoman, once said “If I fail, no one will say, ‘She doesn’t have what it takes’; they will say, Women don’t have what it takes“. Because I am a woman, I must take unusual effort to succeed.

My heart and prays will always be with those less privileged sisters out there who are struggling to make a living.

Happy Women’s Day to you all

P.S. Dear Mom, you will always and forever be the first successful, brave and unique woman I have ever known, loved and admired.

Things I ♥ about Myself

Hello Dreamers:)

We live in a world full of negativity, I always hear people go on about what they do not like about themselves, and this always pisses me off. We all have good things, you just need to be aware of your wonders and turn a blind eye to your foibles (temporally to give yourself a break)

So, today I decided  to write about things I love about myself and encourage you to do the same.

Here’s some of the things I love about ME. (Please do not mistake my self-love for narcissism)

♥ I feel I am perfect with all of my imperfections.

♥ I am always willing to say “I am sorry”

♥ I have bright shinny future ahead of me.

♥ I am good with words.

♥ Curiosity what makes me thriving.

♥ I can find beauty in the most odd things.

♥ I am a day-dreamer (as well as a night-dreamer of course :0)

♥ Pain makes me stronger not weaker.

♥ I treat others the way I want to be treated.

♥ I judge people based on their actions, not on their gender, race or age.

♥ I am stubborn, I never give up.

♥ I am ambitious for learning.

Now, it is your turn, trust me it will make you feel great!!

Look Beyond Words

Only 7% of your message is expressed in your words. The other 93% is in your intonation, gestures, facial expression, demeanour, clothes, hairstyle, or the gun leaning against your shoulder. Your behaviour and body language are far more expressive than what you say. And no word you utter can neutralize what you show or what your body communicates. Keep that in mind.

A man who does not live abroad, have never seen the other side of life

I remember the day when I packed my things in a suitcase and packed my brain with bright and shiny dreams preparing to leave the homeland to a country I have never been to before. I remember all the faces that were surrounding me at that time, each of them had his or her sort of mentality about how the life could be overseas, I am pretty sure that most of them have pictured it as having a picnic in a very cool place. I can fairly say that none of them thought of it as a really tough mission, even ME.

The inevitable outcome of living in a foreign country is to experience some stress, anxiety, and homesickness. So, the first few weeks away from home were quite rough on me, but as far as I know, I coped with it in a very healthy productive way. Most importantly, I stepped out of my comfort zone and realized that I could function indecently without family and friends, and this is a huge accomplish for me.

I gained a new perspective on the world, and I learned so many things about it that I could never learn by sitting in a classroom in my homeland or even reading a book. My professor always refers to us (the international students) as the knowledgeable global citizens, which is kind of cool to feel that you do not just belong to one part of the world, you are actually belong to the whole world because of the multicultural community you are immersed in.

My life here in Canada allows me to meet people whose not only come from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and communities, but also have unique skill sets and competencies, nurtured by life experience.

I have the opportunity to experience different cultures, languages, food, and traditions that are completely different from what I know or what I have seen on TV. You get also to meet like-minded individuals and we experience so much together and they will be lifelong friends.

In a nutshell, living aboard has presented me with so many extraordinary opportunities, to give back, to volunteer and to touch so many lives along the way.

Living in a foreign country on your own takes a lot of energy, a lot of guts, a lot of determination and a lot of dealing with annoying experiences. No one said it would be this easy but it will be eventually.

Love my life here and I would encourage everyone to pack their bags and buy the ticket.

De-stress Your Life

de stressing

One of my every day rituals is 30-mintue walk or jog. I am always cooped up inside all day, sitting in front of my computer working on my school assignments or blogging.

When I am stressed out, I consider walking in a park or other green space, which can actually help me stay sane, put my body into a state of mediation, clear my head and boost my endorphins (the natural stress fighter) otherwise, I get burnt out, cranky or depressed.

Walking scientifically proven to be one of the most sufficient ways to manage stress and cope with tension.

Next time, when you get stressed out, consider walking for better stress relief, and do not forget to take slow, deep, fulfilling breaths.

Wish you a healthy day ahead :)

Nothing to Worry About

IMG_3566

I just realized the fact that worry can eat up my life , it can consume me if I allow it to as today I spent too much time thinking about different things that have yet to happen. I allowed myself to worry about all sorts of of problems, I played each scenario over and over in my head like a continuos CD. It was an unproductive day at all and one of the tough situations life has put me in. So, I grabbed a pen and paper and started to write about all the gloomy nasty things floating up in my head.  I write and write and write till I managed to turn off the negative thought channel in my head.

An important lesson was learned today, I master that no matter how things are bad, there is always a light at the end of tunnel and all I need is more faith to find it, to use my inner compass to direct my way into the world and to trust what God has in store for me.

Despite all that I feel appreciative of going through this today, it helps me to better understand my self, and become more aware of who I am and how I react when life throws me a curveball.

Keep Calm

And

Stay Positive

Time does fly. And it flies fast.  We are in day 258 in the year 2014 calendar. All what I can say at this moment is “I am lucky to be where I am today, I am privileged to have what I have” thank God.  However, I still need to work on some aspects of my life and more importantly to keep up with my New Year’s Resolutions.

107 days remain until the New Year 2015 and as time passes, I began to realize that the previous 258-day journey has taught me so many valuable lessons.

It taught me to never trust anyone but myself and my own sense of what is right as this has been the best self-gudiance ever (in my humble opinion).

2660 To be patient as in life, there are many problems that cannot be solved overnight. Patience is a necessity.

To stay faithful and not be prudent to take  a leap in the dark. To not lower my expectations even if people around me tell me otherwise.

Change is always good, and from time to time, I need to tweak my lifestyles.

The first secret to happiness is to fall in love with yourself.

Good company is a key, because we become who we hang out with.

I never know what I have until I lose it, and once I lose it I can never get it back

I can start a revolution and most of the time I do not need the help from other people.

To laugh at myself and let little things go.

And finally to not underestimate myself.

                                                                           Have a lovely night everyone:)

Happy New (School) Year

School is here, the change from the routines of summer to a new schedule is often identifies as the cause of stress, anxiety and worries. Whether you have been away from school for a short period of time or for several years, you may experience these feeling during the first few days o school. It is unavoidable and I am sure that all the students out there can relate to that.

Returning students sometimes face the unknown and the unfamiliar. They may wonder if they will finish this time, how long it will take to finish and what lies at the end of the journey.

Here are some tips to ease Back to School Anxiety.  Eat well, drink water, exercise, breath deeply and don’t forget to set a positive, optimistic tone to help you get through the ups and downs of the daily life of school.

Good Luck :)

City I love

Vancouver, the beautiful city I fell in love with ♥

I enjoy every single scene of this laid-back city, the nightlife, ocean breeze, the snowy mountains and even the drunken beggars who fill the streets and shake their paper cups demanding money.

Vancouver, the grown-up city represents a buzzy cultural life and a cosmopolitan population that includes diverse ethnic mix from Asia, Africa, and Europe.

I don’t mind living here forever, home is where the heart is, and this lovely city not just have captured my heart but seduced my mind too.

XOXO

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Lots of us have a thing called a “bucket list,” those experiences we wish to have before we pass on from this life. And I’m no different.

Few minutes past 5PM last 19 July, 2014, Saturday, I crossed off one dream that was on my bucket list: a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. It was a wonderful spiritual experience.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was initiated by the late President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is one of Abu Dhabi’s top tourist attractions and the largest religious center in the United Arab Emirates and the 10th largest Mosque in the world.

This mosque is not just a place of tourism but primarily of worship and must be considered sacred at all times. The size of the Mosque is 22,000 square meters and has a capacity of 40,000 people to pray at once.

Dress codes must be observed. Long, loose fitting, ankle length trousers or skirts for women and men. Women must wear a headscarf. Footwear must be removed prior entering the main prayer hall.

I went there for Maghrib (sunset) prayer and stayed there till Isah (night-time) prayer. I wondered around and was stunned by the Islamic architecture, I was really mesmerized by its white and gold color design. While the prayer halls of the mosque are grand and luxurious, the corridors are simple and yet a treat to the eye.

Simply, it’s beyond beautiful.

Hope you will have the chance to visit it one day and see this one-of-a-kind place on Earth.

Peace!

Snail Mail

IMG_2166

Yay !!! I just received a snail mail from my talented photographer.

I love snail mail, I love anything that can arrive with a postage stamp. There’s something universally appealing about hand-written letters, It carries ‘more than words’, it carries the sender’s breath, perfume and hands on the letter. Not like the cold and empty E-mails.

                                                                                                                                                         XOXO

I ♥ Fridays

Cheers, it’s Friday ♥

My last assignment was due in on Thursday and now I can officially start my weekend, clear my mind and let go of issues.

This week, I have learned or should I say relearned  that no matter how busy I am and how hectic my life gets I need to make some time for myself to clear my mind and let go of issues.

I simply love weekends because to me they mean fresh air and freedom. They mean fill flops, no make-up, messy hair, not being on a schedule and eyes can relax from not having to sit in front of a computer all day.

It is always good to have some time to offload all the things that had gone on top of you during the week and do something makes you happy, dive in your favourite activities and leave the world you have been living for two days:)

Happy Friday :)

#BlogshopSF

Hello Beautiful People,

Hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far :)

I’ve been interested in #Blogshop for a while, and recently I had the opportunity to haul myself from Vancouver to San Francisco just to attend this workshop. It was such an amazing experience and one of the best investments of my life.

It was ideal learning climate and a wonderful opportunity to free the creative spirit and learn some new Photoshop skills.

First Thought

Okay, I have to admit that writing my first post was really scary. Just thinking about it sent a wave of nervousness through my body. Then the inevitable “How the hell am I going to do it !!” thought raced through my mind. At the same time, I was pushing my self too hard to finish writing it as  I was thrilled to see how readers would interact with what I am going to write.

I personally believe that every woman is a story to tell, and I am here to share my story. With some help, I have come to realize that my perspective about life is eccentric if not whimsical.  But before we go further in this,  let me warn you that even thought I am coming from outward conservative culture, I am not the typical Saudi girl that you may think I am. I am not that girl who is sitting behind doors and not very much part of the public life. Because of that, I decided to start my own blog and share not just my story but also my reflections on a wide range of topics. It is also going to be pretty much a  lifestyle destination that delivers  inspiration to live in a stylish and creative life. However, My blog might be confusing to some of you and sometimes you may feel that it is like a puzzle needs to be solved, but keep in mind throughout my posts that we actually live in a very confusing world so, bear with me. And yes, I jump around with tangents and this is the way my brain works. If you want a less confusing story, come back to me in ten years from now when I sort it all out.

When I was a little girl, I was inspired by Majid and  Basim magazine and I desperately wanted to become a writer. More precisely, I wanted to be a novelist to write a long story where I can have my imaginary people and create my own plot line.

I  love writing, I write to not lose my inner voice, to sharpen my confidence while honoring vulnerability and nourishing glimmers of personal insight. I write not to escape life, but for life not to escape me.

I am sure you will enjoy a really fun ride.

                                                                                      Welcome to my WORLD :)
